After I had informed myself about different agencies, I wrote a short
application and checked if I fulfilled all the requirement ( min. 18 years max.
30 years old, no children, completed my school education, valid driver's
license , no medical limitations , at least 200 hours of childcare experience
in the last 3 years , met all the Visa criteria and good English skills .
I chose AIFS ( http://www.aifs.de/aupair/neuseeland/ ) after a friend also
traveled with AIFS and was very pleased.
I then filled out a profile ( experience in child care , hobbies , driving
experience, why I want to be an Au Pair and why in New Zealand and what not).
After I completed the profile I had a Skype interview with my AIFS supervisor
(who was super nice ) and then my profile has been unlocked and I could see the
families, which matched my criteria and I could add those I liked to my
favorites.
I soon had a few families who were interested in me and had my first Skype
interview with a potential host family.
I was pretty excited, but the family was super nice and I could even talk
to their current Au Pair .
The family ( from Auckland ) then offered me a job and I accepted it that
means I'll start there on 13 April. :-)
My flight already departs on 6th April and I'll have a 3 day "Orientation
Course" with lots of information on driving on the left side of the road
and First - Aid for children .
Now I just need to gather all the ( missing ) documents.
I already have the international driver's license, the new passport, all
the check-ups and all vaccinations.
I applied for the visa (Working-Holiday)and it is currently in the status
of "being processed"
Now I need to start thinking about what I need to pack for a year ( clothes
and stuff), so it won't be too much (or not enough).
But if I forget something, there are also stores in New Zealand.
So far so good. Updates will follow :-)
